The Adopt-a-Child-Size and Support Services (in partnership with St. Clement's Episcopal Church) presented The Mighty Voices of Thunder in concert on Sunday October 6, 2013.
Established in 1986 in response to identified needs for new winter clothing for children living in Outer Wayne County and Eastern Washtenaw County. Children living in Detroit are referred to the Adopt-A-Child program there and are not served by Adopt-A-Child-Size.
Supported solely by donations from individuals, churches, community groups and organizations, businesses, and school employees. They receive no governmental funds or foundation support and are staffed totally by volunteers. A Board of Directors oversees the programs operations.
Children are referred to the program by health, human service and education agencies after having been determined to have a legitimate need for warm clothing and having no other resource available. Home visits and verification of income is completed to ensure that there is a need.
The outfit consist of a coat, hat, gloves, two long sleeve tops, pants, undershirt, panties or briefs, socks, thermals or pajams/blanket sleepers in some cases and an educational book or toy.
